KOMMANDÓ

The name of Comandău (Kommandó) comes from the German word “”Grenzkommando”, which means “border-guards”, as the border between Romania and the Austro-Hungarian Empire used to be here. It is the highest lying settlement of the Trei Scaune region, and thanks to its special location and beautiful lands it attracts more and more tourists every year. The Lăcăuți peak (1777 m), the highest point of the county, can be easily approached from here.
Tourist attractions of the village: the 19th century club, presently functioning as the mayor’s office, and the Sphagnum peats of the area. The industrial railway of the village has appeared in several national feature films. We can read about the old settlement and the life of its people in the lyrical monograph of Látó Anna (1906-1993), entitledHonvágyaim hiteles története (The True Story of My Homesicknesses). Látó Anna was born in Comandău.
